Before You Choose a Candidate, Know Your Ballot

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE A CANDIDATE, YOU SHOULD MAKE SURE YOU’RE READY TO VOTE!

Before I ask anyone to vote for me, I want to encourage our community to be informed voters. Know what is on your ballot, who is running, and what each candidate actually stands for.

STEP 1: CHECK YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION

Make sure you are registered and that your name and current home address are correct. Your address determines which local races and Trustee Area appear on your ballot.

Check your registration:

STEP 2: REGISTER OR UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION

Not registered yet? Did you recently move, change your name, or need to update your information?

📅 October 19, 2026 — Regular Voter Registration Deadline

Missed the deadline? Don't assume you can't vote! California offers Same Day/Conditional Voter Registration from October 20 through Election Day.

STEP 3: FIND YOUR RIO SCHOOL DISTRICT TRUSTEE AREA

Rio School District elects board members by Trustee Area, which means not every Rio voter votes for every school board seat.

Your home address determines your Trustee Area—not necessarily the school your child attends.

Check the Rio School District Trustee Area map to make sure you know which race applies to your address.

STEP 4: LOOK UP YOUR BALLOT

Your ballot may be different from someone else's, even if they live nearby.

Visit VOTE411.org and enter your address to see the candidates, races, propositions, and measures that apply to you.

STEP 5: RESEARCH YOUR CANDIDATES

Don't choose someone simply because you recognize their name or have seen the most signs.

Use VOTE411 to compare candidates. Read their websites and candidate statements. Attend forums. Look at their experience and priorities. Ask questions.

And yes—research me too!

You deserve to know who you are putting in a position to represent your family and community.

STEP 6: RESEARCH PROPOSITIONS & LOCAL MEASURES

Candidates aren't the only important choices on your ballot.

Before voting YES or NO, find out what your vote actually means and how that proposition or measure could directly or indirectly affect our schools, families, neighborhoods, services, funding, and taxpayers.

STEP 7: TRACK YOUR BALLOT

After you vote, don't just wonder whether your ballot made it!

California's Where's My Ballot? service allows you to receive updates about your ballot by text, email, or voice call.

STEP 8: MAKE YOUR VOTING PLAN

Decide BEFORE Election Day:

Am I voting by mail?
Am I using a secure drop box?
Am I voting early?
Am I voting in person on November 3?

And know where you're going before you head out.

Most importantly...

Before I ask you to vote for me, I'm asking you to be an informed voter.

Check your registration. Know your Trustee Area. Look at YOUR ballot. Research every candidate—including me. Read our answers. Ask us questions. Learn about the issues. Then make the decision that YOU believe is best for our community.

I don't just want your vote because my name is on a sign.

I want our community to know who and what they're voting for—and why.

🗳️ An informed community is a stronger community.
