Meet your Trustee Area 3 Elect
Hi, I’m Christina. ❤️
Before I tell you what I stand for, I think you deserve to know who you're voting for.
First and foremost, I'm a mom of three. I became a mother at 19 while attending Ventura College. As a first-generation college student with a baby on my hip, I was figuring out motherhood, work, school, and life all at once. I went on to earn four associate degrees, make the Dean's List, transfer to Cal State Fullerton, and earn my bachelor's degree in Sociology with a concentration in Social Inequalities. Today, I'm continuing my education while working as an Education Specialist.
But my degrees only tell a small part of my story.
I've lived a very real life.
I've worked at Chuck E. Cheese and Starbucks, in school districts and mortgage companies, as a tutor and substitute teacher, and now in special education. And depending on the weekend, I may even be your DoorDasher!
I've never been afraid of hard work or doing what needs to be done for my family.
I've also experienced things that have shaped the person I am today. For example, growing up in a broken home, bullying at a young age, workplace harassment, domestic violence, postpartum depression, financial hardships, and multiple family losses.
I don't share those experiences for sympathy. I share them because they've given me perspective.
They've taught me that we don't always know what a child or family is carrying when they walk through our school doors.
Some families may be navigating domestic violence or abuse. Others may need counseling, financial assistance, immigration resources, food or housing support, or simply someone who can point them in the right direction.
Our schools can't solve every problem, but they can help families find the right door.
Special education is personal to me, too.
I'm an Education Specialist, but I'm also the parent of a child in special education.
I've experienced both sides of that table. I've listened to families advocate for their children, and I've heard educators talk about wanting to provide more support but facing challenges with staffing, resources, caseloads, time, or communication.
That's why strengthening special education matters so much to me.
Supporting students also means supporting the educators who serve them. I want families to feel heard, teachers and staff to have the resources they need, and students to receive meaningful support—not simply services that look good on paper.
So, why am I running?
Because this is personal.
My children are part of the Rio School District. I'm a parent, a fellow educator, and a member of this community.
I believe in transparency, accountability, educational equity, stronger special education, supporting ALL staff, inclusion, and respectful communication—even when we disagree.
I'm not interested in choosing between the district, teachers, staff, or families.
Our students need all of us.
I want to help build the bridge between those groups and make sure decisions start with one simple question:
How does this help our students?
I won't promise to fix everything. I will promise to show up, ask questions, listen, do my homework, and turn words into action.
I'm Christina Segovia.
A mom. A teacher. An advocate. A community member.
I've faced challenges, worked hard, started over, and learned along the way. Those experiences are exactly why I believe so strongly in giving people a voice and making sure our students and families know they aren't navigating everything alone.
I'm not a politician. I'm a parent working for progress. ❤️
You've heard a little of my story.
Now I'd love to hear yours.
